The Glory of Israel…

I am reading 1 Samuel 15 today and in verses 24-29 Saul is speaking to Samuel about his sin. Saul was supposed to destroy the Amalekites completely, but he allowed the people to spare the king Agag and the best of the livestock to sacrifice to the Lord. Samuel said,

Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord?

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.

Saul admits his sin to Samuel, but asks that Samuel come with him and pardon his sin so that he can worship the Lord. Samuel refuses to go and turns away. Saul grabbed Samuel’s robe, tearing it.

So Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to your neigbor, who is better than you.

Also the Glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.

I am so glad that the Lord is not like man, and that He hasn’t changed His mind about me. I know that in my imperfect way, I change my mind all the time and say that I have the right to do so. But, the Lord makes His decrees and keeps His promises.

Thank you Lord for your unchanging grace for me, a sinner. You are my Lord and Saviour and I will ever praise You.
